St. Peter's Episcopal Church is one of the few parishes in the United States that still includes choral Morning Prayer as one of its main Sunday worship services. We pray this liturgy every second, fourth and fifth Sunday at 10:30 am.
Morning Prayer is a beautiful service of call and response that includes readings from the Psalms and Holy Scriptures, interspersed with congregational and choral singing. The service also includes a time of group prayer and a sermon.
This Book of Common Prayer service has its roots in the very first English prayer book published in 1549, and we still retain the use of traditional language ("thee"s and "thou"s), both because of the richness of the language and because the otherworldliness of traditional language reminds us that we are entering into the sacred presence of a holy God.
Holy Communion, also known as Holy Eucharist or the Lord's Supper, is a form of worship established by Jesus himself. This liturgy includes song, Scripture readings, a sermon, and solemn prayers leading to the consecration of bread and wine to become for us the body and blood of the risen Christ. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion at St. Peter's Church.
We celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday morning at 8:30 am., as well as the first and third Sunday at 10:30 am. Holy Communion is also offered on major Christian holy days throughout the Church year.
For those who desire it, our parish offers First Holy Communion classes twice a year.
Children's Chapel is a Holy Communion service geared toward our youngest parishioners. Every fifth Sunday, we join in a time of worship that's adapted for children. We sing songs, hear a Bible message, pray, and take communion together (sometimes, we even dance).
Children's Chapel takes place on the fifth Sundays of the year during the 10:30 am service in the St. Peter's Children's Chapel beside the Sunday School rooms on the second floor of the Guild House (beside the main church). All are welcome!
