The LORD has sought out a man after his own heart...” (I Sam. 13:14)
King David is one of the great figures of both the Jewish and Christian faiths. His life was a mosaic of extraordinary achievements and tragic personal failures. A simple shepherd boy who was anointed by the Prophet Samuel to be the second King of Israel; the slayer of Goliath who was also a skilled musician; a fierce warrior and a composer of psalms; a nation-builder whose rule was marred by family dissensions and political revolts; a man devoted to his God, yet an adulterer and murderer; a king, a prophet, and a priest. Through a study of portions of the books of Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, and the Psalms, we will explore the achievements and contradictions of David’s life, how he was tested and molded through his relationship with the Lord, and how he served as a forerunner of Christ.
Class will meet at 11:45.in the old Vestry Room (1st floor of the Guild House) on the 1st and 4th Sundays of February, the 2nd and 4th Sundays of March, and April and the 2nd Sunday of May. Recommended readings will be announced before each class.
Learn to Walk with Jesus from Those who Walked with Him
This new year, grow in fellowship and faith by joining a small group in a parishioner's home. We'll spend time learning about -- and discussing -- a different disciple each month, giving us insight into that person's faith journey and how it intersects with our own.
Groups will meet for 90 minutes, once per month. Light refreshments will be served. Email here to sign up or request more information.
Group one: Second Wednesdays at 7 pm
Group two: Third Fridays at 2 pm
