In partnership with the Capital City Rescue Mission, St. Peter's hosts an overflow winter shelter for men in the Guild House of our parish each winter, running from November through the Spring. Since 2009, St. Peter's has provided a warm, safe place for homeless men to relax, enjoy some snacks and tv, and get some sleep. Occasionally, our parishioners sign up to serve snacks and to chat with our guests before bedtime.
The Albany Damien Center gives support to people living with HIV/AIDS. Our parishioners host regular festive meals for the Center, including Christmas and Easter dinner and Memorial and Labor Day cookouts. We also held a Hot Dog Roast fundraiser last year to benefit the Center's pets program.
Loaves & Fishes provides a hot meal, groceries and clothing assistance to meet needs of hundreds people in West Albany every Saturday. Parishioners from St. Peter's - led by our Outreach chair Laura Saffares -- help the 2nd and 3rd Saturdays of each month.
The South End Children's Cafe provides food -- as well as academic and artistic enrichment -- to children living in the South End of Albany.
St. Peter's regularly contributes groceries for the Cafe's walk-up food cabinets. Our parish also donates Thanksgiving Day bags for families to have the fixings for a holiday meal. We also contribute Christmas gifts to the Cafe kids in December.
The US-Uganda Orphans Education Fund provides scholarships for Ugandan students to attend secondary school. Each year, St. Peter's sponsors three students.
