Holy Baptism "is the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ's Body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God" (Prayer Book, p 858).. We baptize babies, children, and adults in our tradition.
Our traditional Sundays for baptisms are during holy days corresponding roughly to the four seasons: Baptism of Christ (winter), Easter (spring), Pentecost (summer), and All Saints' Day (fall). In some circumstances, we do baptisms on other days.
Adults wanting to be baptized (or those wanting children to be baptized) will undergo three sessons of baptismal preparation with Mtr. Christina covering the basics of the Christian life.
Confirmation "is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the layong on of hands by a bishop" (Prayer Book, p 860).
Our Diocese requires confirmation candidates to be at least 13 years of age. Our bishop offers confirmation either during parish visits or at regional confirmation services that include confirmands from multiple parishes (like the one picture above, held at our church).
Those wishing to be confirmed -- whether teens or adults -- will undergo several months of preparation and Christian formation with Mtr. Christina, diving deep into the tenents of our faith found in the historic Creeds, the standards of ethical behavior in the Ten Commandments and Sermon on the Mount, and the Lord's Prayer.
All Baptized people, regardless of age, are welcome to receive Holy Communion at St. Peter's Church. However, many parents wish for their children to refrain from receiving Communion until they are of an age to receive basic instruction in the meaning and holiness of the Sacrament.St. Peter's offers a two-part "First Communion Preparation" class in the fall and spring at parents' request.
